Accident Handling and Claims Process
What should I do first after a minor accident?
- Ensure safety:
Check for injuries.
If there are any, immediately call 911. - Take photos:
Before moving vehicles, photograph the relative positions of vehicles, collision points, license plates, and scene environment. - Move to safety:
Move vehicles to the roadside or other safe location to avoid blocking traffic. - Exchange information:
Exchange driver's licenses, vehicle registration documents, and proof of insurance with the other driver, and record their phone number. - Complete accident report:
Fill out a Joint Report (Constat à l'amiable) together with the other party.
Even if there's a dispute, each fills out their own section.
Keep this form in your car.
No need to wait for police (unless there are injuries or serious disputes). - Contact insurance company:
Report to your insurance company as soon as possible.
This is general information only and does not constitute insurance advice. Your policy wording and a licensed broker's confirmation prevail.
